Tour to Diani Tsavo and Amboseli

Kenya has been a long-time favourite safari destination of mine. A quick 8 hour direct flight from the UK makes it an easy destination to visit, even for short breaks. The 3 hour time distance means that limited time is lost to jet-lag, and I am not sure whether it is just sheer luck, but the animal sightings I have in Kenya are always just exceptional!  My latest trip in November 2022 was just 8 nights, but we certainly packed it in and it honestly felt like we had been away for much longer. The trip was a mixture of…

Update from our CEO – Sarah

Wow – It has been a busy couple of months for us here at African Star Tours. We have done a couple of educational trips, we have just launched our exciting new website and we now have a great new Social Media manager on board! Most importantly though we have seen a strong increase in enquiries for trips to Africa for 2023 and 2024, from both our primary UK market, and increasingly from clients booking with us from the US – which is fantastic.

Our top booked destination for 2022 was Namibia for a mixture of self-drive and private escorted tours. For many of our clients this was their first ‘big trip’ following COVID, and they primarily chose Namibia as it is well known for its wide open spaces, quieter safaris and most people I spoke with liked the idea of self-drive tours as it was great for maximising social-distancing, whilst still emerging from the pandemic…

But – where are the most popular destinations for bookings at the moment for 2023 I hear you ask…. well….drum roll……

  • South Africa – Cape Town, Kruger and Safari Combination tours
  • Kenya – Safari and Beach tours between 7-12 days
  • Tanzania – 3-4 Day Safaris with 7 Days Zanzibar
  • Sao Tome & Principe – Total honesty – it is not one of our most booked.. however it is regularly coming up as one of the most searched trips on our website – and I love this!

I have been out to both South Africa and Kenya in the last 4 months, to reconnect with our suppliers and to explore some of the lesser visited safari parks with a view to creating more unique tours for 2023/24. All destinations had a great selection of both mid-range and high-end lodges, but the common theme was excellent service and excellent wildlife experiences. Most notably though – everyone I spoke to is positive about the future and getting tourism back on track!

I am definitely looking forward to speaking with many of you in the coming months to help you plan your dream African adventure….Plus if you are free why not come on down to meet us at Destinations: Holiday & Travel Show at London Olympia from 2nd til 5th February 2023!
