Zambia stands as one of Africa’s most authentic and rewarding safari destinations, offering vast, unspoilt landscapes and exceptional wildlife encounters away from the crowds. Home to some of the continent’s finest national parks including Kafue, South Luangwa, North Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi. Zambia delivers a safari experience that feels both exclusive and deeply immersive. These diverse ecosystems range from sweeping floodplains and dense woodlands to riverine forests and open savannahs, supporting an incredible abundance of wildlife and creating the perfect setting for unforgettable game viewing.

Renowned as the birthplace of the walking safari, Zambia offers a truly intimate way to experience the African bush. In South Luangwa, expert guides lead you on foot through pristine wilderness, tracking wildlife and revealing the smaller details often missed on traditional drives. The park is also famous for its thriving leopard population, making it one of the best places in Africa to witness these elusive predators in the wild. Alongside leopard sightings, visitors can expect close encounters with elephants, lions, wild dogs and a remarkable variety of birdlife, ensuring every day brings something extraordinary.

Zambia’s safari offering is incredibly diverse, catering to every style of traveller. From classic game drives and specialist photographic safaris to canoeing along the Zambezi River and remote mobile camping expeditions, each experience provides a unique perspective on the landscape. The Lower Zambezi, in particular, offers a beautiful blend of land and water-based activities, where you can glide silently past hippos and elephants by canoe or enjoy sunset cruises with breathtaking views. For birding enthusiasts, Zambia is a hidden gem, with over 700 species recorded across its varied habitats.

For those seeking adventure beyond the safari, Livingstone provides an exhilarating contrast. Set on the banks of the Zambezi River and within easy reach of the iconic Victoria Falls, this vibrant destination is a hub for adrenaline and exploration. Known locally as “The Smoke That Thunders,” Victoria Falls is the world’s largest sheet of falling water and a true natural wonder. Whether you choose to experience it from the ground, soar above it by helicopter or microlight, or embrace the thrill of activities such as white-water rafting, bungee jumping, or abseiling, Livingstone adds an unforgettable edge to any Zambian journey.

What truly sets Zambia apart, however, is its sense of wilderness and authenticity. With fewer visitors than many other safari destinations, you can enjoy a more personal and exclusive experience, often feeling as though you have the landscape entirely to yourself. Combined with exceptional guiding, diverse activities, and some of Africa’s most pristine environments, Zambia offers a safari that is not only rich in wildlife but deeply connected to the spirit of the wild.

When is the best time of the year to visit?

The best time of the year to visit Zambia is April through to October and this is because the country is coolest within the dry season. Whilst temperatures are good during the day in dry season it can get much cooler in the evenings and overnight, especially at altitude, so do remember to pack warm clothes. The green season of October to March in Zambia does offer some excellent rates, particularly for solo travellers, as single supplements are typically waived. However, the vegetation will be thick and green, making animals more difficult (but not impossible) to see. Green season is also the most impressive time to see the mighty Victoria Falls in Livingstone, as this is when water levels are at their highest.
