La Casa del Papa in Ouidah is a lovely beachfront resort with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. One of the first things that stood out was the design of the chalets, which are well laid out with two separate rooms per lodge building. While the interiors are fairly basic with limited in-room amenities, the air-conditioning works very well and the beds are comfortable, making for a good night’s sleep. The outside seating area was a real highlight and a great place to relax in the evenings.

The location is excellent, set right on the beach and perfect for watching the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. It is also very well positioned for exploring the area, with easy access to the Slave Route, Ouidah’s main attractions and the Gate of No Return. This makes it an ideal base for combining relaxation with cultural and historical sightseeing.

Dining at La Casa del Papa was very enjoyable, with a good and varied menu. The food was consistently well prepared, and the seafood in particular stood out for its freshness and flavour. Meals could be enjoyed in a relaxed setting that complemented the beachside atmosphere.

The pool area is calm and inviting, providing a great place to unwind, although relaxing directly on the beach is just as appealing. The staff are friendly and welcoming, contributing to the positive experience, and the mix of international visitors and local guests gives the hotel a lively and authentic vibe. Overall, La Casa del Papa offers a great combination of comfort, location and atmosphere and we try to ensure it is included on all our Benin itineraries.
