Accommodation is simple but comfortable, with communal dining and lounge areas that encourage socialising and taking in the views. Our Review
A two to four night stay on the Zambezi Trader is a wonderfully relaxed and unique way to experience Zimbabwe, offering something very different from a traditional lodge stay. The journey typically begins with a scenic drive of around three hours from Victoria Falls to Msuna Island, where the boat departs. From the moment you step on board, the pace slows and the focus shifts to enjoying the water, scenery and wildlife.
The Zambezi Trader offers three classes of cabins, catering to different preferences. The top-class cabins are located on the upper deck and are the most spacious, with excellent views and a premium feel. Lower down, C Deck cabins provide a more basic and smaller option, but they are still comfortable and well designed. Importantly, all cabins feature private balconies, allowing every guest to enjoy the water views and wildlife from their own space.
Life on board is relaxed and sociable, with communal lounge and dining areas that encourage guests to spend time together. Meals are enjoyable and unhurried, and days are filled with gentle cruising, game viewing along the shoreline and time to simply sit back and take in the surroundings. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the experience.
One of the highlights of the Zambezi Trader is the unique perspective it offers on wildlife. Seeing animals such as elephants, buffalo and hippos from the water is a very different and rewarding experience, and the changing light over the water adds to the magic. Sunset cruises are particularly memorable, with the landscape and wildlife bathed in golden light.
Overall, the Zambezi Trader delivers a memorable and distinctive experience that is as much about the journey as the destination. It combines comfort, scenery and wildlife in a way few other experiences can, making it an excellent addition to a Zimbabwe itinerary for travellers looking to experience the country in a relaxed and atmospheric way.
