Wusum Hotel in Makeni, Sierra Leone is a well-known mid-range hotel and one of the top places to stay in the city’s northern region. Located on Teko Road, it offers air-conditioned rooms with amenities like Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and private bathrooms, alongside facilities such as an outdoor pool, fitness centre, restaurant and bar, garden and shared lounge. The hotel also provides services like airport transfers, free parking and business facilities including conference spaces, making it suitable for both leisure and business travellers. The rooms we stayed in at Wusum Hotel were quite tired, and the bathrooms are basic. However, our guests often praise its friendly staff, clean rooms and relaxed atmosphere.

We had a lovely stay at Wusum Hotel and especially enjoyed the pool area. After a long journey, it was wonderful to relax by the water in such a well-maintained setting. The pool and surrounding space are clearly very well kept, making it a perfect spot to unwind and recharge.

The restaurant offers a good mix of local and international dishes, which we appreciated. While not everything on the menu was always available and the service could be a little slow at times, the overall quality of the food was good. Despite these minor issues, it is easy to see why the hotel is regarded as the best option in the area.

Our room experience was mixed. We stayed in one of the older, non-renovated rooms, and unfortunately we experienced severe flooding in the bathroom, which was quite inconvenient. This clearly highlighted the difference between the updated and older accommodations.

That said, the room itself was basic but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The essentials were all there, and overall we were able to rest well. With some improvements to the older rooms, the Wusum Hotel would easily match the high standard set by its pool and public areas.
