Our Review

★★★★★

Siviti Timbavati Plains in the Thornybush Nature Reserve is a lodge we absolutely loved, offering an intimate and highly polished safari experience in a prime wildlife area that shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park. The boutique nature of the lodge creates an exclusive atmosphere, with accommodation for a maximum of just 18 guests across seven luxury suites and one private two-bedroom villa. This limited size ensures privacy, tranquillity and a very personal feel throughout the stay.

The suites are spacious and beautifully designed, each featuring a separate lounge or work area, a large and extremely comfortable bed, and impressively generous bathrooms. Every suite has its own private plunge pool, which means the main infinity pool is often quiet, despite being a fantastic spot for wildlife viewing, animals regularly visit the nearby waterholes and occasionally wander close to the pool itself. Rooms are gradually being upgraded, but even the non-upgraded suites are stylish, high quality and spacious, with no difference in pricing between them.

The two-bedroom villa is an excellent option for families or small groups seeking privacy. It includes a private pool and a central lounge and kitchen area, where a private chef can be arranged. The bedrooms are connected by raised walkways around 20–30 metres apart, which works well for older children or groups but may not suit families with very young children. Across all accommodation, thoughtful touches such as air conditioning, electric blankets, complimentary laundry and self-service hot drinks for early game drives add to the overall comfort.

Dining and service at Siviti are of a very high standard, with excellent food and attentive, personalised service — guests are often looked after by a dedicated waiter. Breakfasts stand out, offering an impressive buffet alongside freshly cooked options and daily specials. The lodge also features a large wine cellar and a hide beneath the main dining area, complete with a bar and comfortable seating, ideal for close-up wildlife viewing or intimate private functions.

Game drives are a highlight, led by highly skilled guides and trackers who deliver exceptional wildlife experiences. The lodge’s approach to privacy is well considered, with vehicles only driving in front of the lodge if all guests are out on game drives. Facilities include a spa for relaxation between activities, an infinity pool overlooking the bush, and a small on-site museum and education centre that showcases preserved animals and offers insight into conservation, albeit with a slightly old-fashioned, hunter’s-lodge aesthetic.

Overall, Siviti is ideally suited to couples, honeymooners, discerning safari travellers and repeat visitors upgrading from mid-range lodges who value exclusivity, modern luxury and outstanding guiding. It also works well for small groups or families booking the private villa. While it may not suit budget-focused travellers or those seeking a lively, social atmosphere, it excels as a refined, peaceful and deeply rewarding safari lodge, particularly when combined with value-added offers such as the 4-for-3 special or honeymoon packages.
