Onguma The Fort is a truly distinctive safari lodge and one of the most memorable places we stayed near Etosha. From the moment you arrive, the unique architectural style sets it apart, with its stone fort design feeling slightly Moroccan in influence while still sitting comfortably within the Namibian bush. It has a strong sense of character and presence, making the experience feel special from the outset.

One of the standout features is the excellent waterhole directly in front of the lodge. This creates constant wildlife activity and provides exceptional viewing throughout the day. We especially loved our evenings here, sitting out on the deck as the sun set, watching animals come and go while the sky changed colour, moments that quickly became highlights of our stay.

The rooms are spacious and well designed, continuing the lodge’s distinctive style with thoughtful details and generous layouts. An added highlight was the golf-buggy transfers to and from the rooms, which are used for safety reasons after dark but also turned out to be great fun and part of the overall experience. Facilities throughout the property are excellent, from the pool and viewing areas to the comfortable communal spaces that encourage relaxation.

Service at Onguma The Fort is warm, professional and attentive, adding greatly to the overall experience. The food is also a highlight, with well-prepared, high-quality meals that are beautifully presented and consistently enjoyable. Dining with views over the waterhole enhances the experience even further.

Combined with the activities available within the private Onguma Nature Reserve, it offers a varied and rewarding safari experience. Overall, Onguma The Fort delivers outstanding wildlife viewing, excellent service and a unique sense of style, making it a lodge we would happily return to.
