Our Review
We absolutely loved our stay at Last Word Franschhoek and it was easily one of the highlights of our time in the Cape Winelands. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly friendly, warm and genuinely personalised. The team took a real interest in our plans, remembering where we were dining each evening and always taking the time to ask how our experiences had been. It felt far more like staying with attentive friends than at a hotel.
The property itself is beautifully designed, with the modern, stylish aesthetic that Last Word properties are known for. Every space feels thoughtfully curated, blending contemporary luxury with a relaxed atmosphere that perfectly suits Franschhoek. The lounge and honesty bar were particular favourites of ours, offering comfortable seating, a sophisticated ambience and the freedom to help ourselves to drinks whenever we wished. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the valley.
Breakfast each morning was exceptional. Not only was everything delicious, but it was also beautifully presented and prepared with great care. One morning they even made me a fresh smoothie to order using the fruit I requested, a small touch that perfectly summed up the property’s personalised approach to hospitality. It was the kind of breakfast experience that encourages you to linger a little longer each morning.
Our room was enormous, as was the bathroom, giving us plenty of space to relax. The bathroom layout is quite open-plan, which may not suit everyone. Personally, I do prefer a door separating the shower area, particularly when travelling with friends or family such as my mum. However, it never felt overly exposed and the toilet was housed separately, which certainly helped with privacy. Overall, the room was exceptionally comfortable and beautifully appointed.
The location could hardly be better. Situated right on Franschhoek’s main street, everything is within easy walking distance, including a fantastic selection of restaurants, bars, cafés and boutique shops. We especially loved being directly opposite the wonderful weekend market, where local producers showcase an array of artisan foods, crafts and other locally made goods. It was such a pleasure to wander across and browse the stalls.
While the pool area is relatively small, it offers everything needed for a relaxing afternoon, with comfortable loungers and a peaceful atmosphere. We stayed in a first-floor room and particularly enjoyed the upstairs sun loungers, which felt wonderfully private and offered beautiful mountain views. On a warm summer’s day, it was the perfect spot to relax with a book and soak up the scenery. Combined with the exceptional service, stylish design and unbeatable location, Last Word Franschhoek delivered a truly memorable stay and is somewhere we would happily return to.
