Our stay at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel was truly memorable, largely thanks to its breathtaking location right on the shores of Lake Kivu. Waking up to expansive views of the calm, shimmering lake framed by distant hills was a highlight of every morning, and the peaceful atmosphere made it easy to slow down and fully relax. The setting feels wonderfully secluded while still being easily accessible, striking a perfect balance between natural beauty and convenience. We also noticed that visitor numbers were relatively low, as unfortunately this region has been affected by ongoing instability across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which shares the lake.

One of our favourite experiences was taking a gentle sunset boat ride out on the lake. Gliding across the water was incredibly calming, and we were lucky to see local fishermen heading out in their traditional wooden boats, a timeless scene that added real cultural depth to our visit. With fewer tourists around, moments like these felt especially authentic and intimate, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural rhythms of life on the lake.

The hotel itself complemented the surroundings beautifully. Our room was comfortable and well appointed, with panoramic lake views that we never tired of, and the service throughout our stay was warm, attentive, and professional.
