Our Review

Shongwe Lookout is a relaxed and characterful lodge, and we really liked our stay here. Set slightly away from the busier parts of Victoria Falls, it offers a calm and spacious atmosphere that feels more like a retreat than a typical town hotel. From arrival, the welcome is warm and personal, creating an immediate sense of ease.

One of our favourite moments was spending a lazy afternoon around the bright, inviting swimming pool. The pool area is well designed and comfortable, making it an ideal place to unwind between activities. It felt peaceful and unhurried, perfect for escaping the heat and slowing the pace of the day.

The rooms are a good size and thoughtfully laid out, with open bathrooms that add to the sense of space and light. We especially loved the strong Zimbabwean influence in the design, with local materials and details giving the rooms real character and a sense of place, rather than feeling generic.

The lookout tower is another highlight and well worth the walk up. We enjoyed stopping there for a drink, taking in the views while experiencing the innovative bar serving method, which adds a fun and memorable touch. It’s a great spot for a sundowner and offers a different perspective on the surrounding area.

We also ate at Shongwe Lookout and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Meals were good and thoughtfully prepared, adding to the convenience of staying on site. The owner is clearly very involved and passionate, which shows in the atmosphere, service and attention to detail throughout the lodge.

Shongwe Lookout is a little walk from town, but this was never a major issue. When we wanted to visit Victoria Falls or head into the centre, we simply took a taxi for a few dollars, which was quick and easy. Overall, Shongwe Lookout offers a relaxed, friendly and well-run stay with character, making it a great choice in Victoria Falls.
